Sensuous pleasures are neither real nor sustainable
Whatever great man can be in this world, there is always something you want in life. We sometimes meet a person who says his life will lack nothing, but still have a strong desire that the status quo should be quiet; which means it is not really happy.
It can also be a person immersed in the sensual pleasures or activities
that seem carefree. A drunken person cannot care whether naked or clothed, may
even challenge or dispute the king, but only while under intoxication.
Sensual pleasures depend transient sensual objects that can leave us one
day; or our senses can become weak; or we can die. And who will enjoy these
pleasures if he is aware of death, which is related to him one day claim?
This abundance of things "pleasant" done for the abundant
pleasure is an obvious misunderstanding. True happiness is that which is
eternal. It can only be found with God, who is himself eternal.
Sensuous pleasure is available to the animal and to humans. What, then,
distinguishes man from beast? It is the faculty that enables man to think about
the basic principles of life, as it really is, and what the purpose of his life
is.
In everyday worldly things we think of gains and losses; but they belong
to a world that is itself impermanent; how such thinking can lead us to the
truth?
